For more than a century industrial, level wood turning of parts, has strong roots in Maine, based on local wood supply of birch and maple, cost effective and ideal materials for smoothly machined parts that are durable and high quality. Prior to the invention (or intervention) of plastics and composites, dozens of towns in Maine supported turning facilities, generating  the countries requirements of tool handles, rolling pins, spools, bobbins, knobs, furniture parts, clothes pins, toys parts, toothpicks, and the needs of the day, using sustainable  New England hardwoods. While most of those facilities have long closed, H.A. Stiles has the resources to offer most any domestic wood in most any shape and size turning.  High volume needs are turned on the heavy duty lathes that have been operating for decades and smaller volume or more complex turnings can be offered, using  the latest in CNC technologies. Some parts start out on CNC lathes at smaller volumes and move to automated high speed lathes, once volumes dictate the economies of scale. We work with clients to offer the best solutions at various stages of development and production.
