Wood Finials: Custom and Production Runs

H.A. Stiles manufactures wood finials for homeowners, furniture makers, contractors, and restoration projects. We handle single replacements, mid-size batches, and large production runs with consistent quality and accurate mounting specifications.

What We Make Finials For

  • Flagpoles (indoor and outdoor installations)
  • Stair newel posts and handrails
  • Bed posts and furniture pieces
  • Curtain rods and drapery hardware
  • Lamps and lighting fixtures
  • Banner poles and display systems
  • Architectural columns and posts

Mounting Options

We machine finials to your specific mounting requirements and work with threaded inserts, dowel screws, tenon joints, friction fits, installation, glue-mounts, contoured bases, and more. Send us your existing hardware or specifications. We’ll match thread pitch, diameter, and depth requirements.

Wood Species Available

We work with both paint-grade (poplar, soft maple, etc.) and stain-grade (oak, hard maple, cherry, walnut, sapele, etc.) woods and select species based on your application. For example, interior furniture gets different treatment than exterior flagpoles.

Custom Matching vs. Standard Profiles

For restoration work: Send photos or bring the original piece. We reverse-engineer the profile and match dimensions, proportions, and mounting style.

For new projects: Choose from existing profiles or specify custom turning. We can work from sketches, CAD files, or dimensional drawings.

Production runs: Once we establish your specifications, we maintain consistent tolerances across quantities from smaller production runs to 5,000+ pieces.

Why Choose Wood Over Plastic or Metal

Wood finials can be turned to exact custom profiles without tooling costs, stained or painted to match existing finishes, repaired or refinished if damaged, and produced in small quantities economically. Plastic requires expensive molds for custom shapes. Metal limits finishing options and costs more for small runs.

Finishing Options

  • Raw wood – Ready for your finishing process
  • Sanded – Ready for stain or paint

  • Pre-stained – Matched to sample or standard colors
  • Primed – Ready for paint application
  • Clear sealed – Protected but showing natural wood grain

For exterior applications, we recommend marine-grade finishes or naturally weather-resistant species.
